The way we used to store bits in a computer, which didn't move.
Little tiny donuts (creme-filled) of magnetic goo, which you could
destructively read (and then have to write back, but the memory system
did this for you).
This primitive state of affairs was replaced and upgraded by UNIVAC to
the more modern plated wire memory on the 1110.
