In October, 1993 I left that position for exciting opportunities in the private sector. I went to work for UUNET, had great fun, did the IPO thing, then UUNET got bought by MFS and then Worldcom, and, well, you know how that all turned out...
From August, 2002 until June 2004, I was working for Hyperchip, building a highly scalable, high perforance core router. It was an opportunity to see "how the sausage gets made" and experience up close and personal the experience of taking a router to market. (Well, pretty close to market, anyway.)
In July 2004, I joined Vonage, the leading VoIP service provider as their CTO until I left the company for new and interesting opportunites in March, 2009.
I worked at Alcatel-Lucent for a couple years, but left that really large company with the intent of getting back into a smaller start-up. My most current professional history is somewhat better described on my LinkedIn page, which looks a bit prettier since they don't use emacs to compose raw HTML like I do here..
I'm doing some CCD imaging these days with a telescope. Check out a few of my recent images.
You can find my PGP key here, too.
Remember the Twilight Zone Movie? Do you want to see something really scary? This is back from the bad old days when I used to program prehistoric big iron. They say it builds character.
